March-ing Right Along

To the Beat of our own Drum

You asked for it, and we’re happy to announce that the time has finally come! Our next Book sale will be held on the first weekend of March! If you’re a member of the Friends of the Library (or want to become one), come down on Friday, March 1st from 6-8pm. Saturday, March 2nd, the sale is open to everyone from 9am to 1pm, and then it’s everyone’s favorite $5 bag sale from 1-3pm on Sunday the 3rd!

Stop by and check out the specially curated collection of books, music, movies, and games waiting for you. The Friends take cash, card, and check, so however you want to acquire your new finds, you can!

  • Room availability will be limited starting Monday, February 26th and through the week while they set up the sale.

  • The Friends will stop accepting donations between February 23rd and March 16th in order to set up for and reorganize after the sale. Please hold on to anything you wish to donate until March 18th.

We’re also pleased to announce this year’s Millis Reads book! This year our community read will be “Eight Flavors: the Untold Story of American Cuisine” by Sarah Lohman. You can pick up your copy of the book at the library, or check it out as an eBook or eAudiobook. We also have a number of supplementary reads—side dishes if you will—(including a decent number of cookbooks if you get hungry) ready and waiting for you!

In the meantime, get ready for a flavorful offering of programs! We’re happy to announce the first couple that are coming this month.

Kim Larkin of Klassic Kreations will host a presentation on delicious treats from the Emerald Isle! Join us on Tuesday, March 5th at 6:45pm for a cheerful program celebrating Ireland, Irish chocolate pioneers, Celtic lore, Irish poetry, The Book of Kells artistry, famous Irish authors and the history of the Claddagh. French Omelettes with Marc Sievers

Join Marc Sievers on Saturday, March 23rd at 2pm for a lively and informative cooking demonstration. Marc is a Cookbook Author, Entertaining Expert, and Stylist, who was recently featured on America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation.

During the event, Marc will be preparing the Fines Herbes French Omelette from his cookbook, French Omelettes: Your New House Meal. Samples will be provided for all attendees and Marc will be available afterwards for Q&A and book signing.

Copies of his book, French Omelettes: Your New House Meal, will be available to purchase.

Please register once for each individual attending.

We hope you all enjoyed the special Color and Chill we had during our Galentines party, and want to let you know it’s almost time for it’s return (on it’s own this time). Come join us on Friday, March 8th at 6:30pm for a hour of quiet relaxation before your busy weekend! Coloring has been proven to help reduce stress, so take a break from your busy life and distract yourself with a variety of intricate pages waiting for you with soothing music and snacks. And if you want a Barbie coloring sheet, let us know— we can make one up special for you.

Everything you'll need will be provided— just bring yourself! No registration required.

Our new Writer’s Space has had a rough start. The first meeting was during that ice storm and the second ended up rescheduled after the blizzard closing, but wasn’t visible due to a calendar glitch. Bad weather aside, we’re not giving up! Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 12th at 7pm, so stop by and join a loosely focused gathering of writers. Share ideas, frustrations, lyrics and triumphs. Laugh, cry, and look cross while you think it out.

Each month we will discuss or (not discuss) a prompt, and this month’s is Rain. Free write or finish your masterpiece. We don't even care if you doodle nonsense. We just want to see you put pen/pencil/stylus/keyboard to page/paper/screen/program and have some light refreshments. And if you want to get notifications/reminders about the meetings, register for our email list here.

Bring your blankets and your friends because it’s time for another Teen Movie Night! We’ll be showing Barbie this time, so come get your pink on and stop by Friday, March 15th at 5:30pm. We’ll supply the snacks and drinks.

Recommended for grades 6th-8th, no registration required.

Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.
