See What's Blooming
Hello friends and welcome back!

In spite of the technical difficulties plaguing us, our virtual author event for Millis Reads: Eight Flavors with Sarah Lohman is still on! Join us Thursday, April 25th for her virtual visit to discuss and answer questions about her book Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine, this year’s Millis Reads title. Sarah will discuss to how the book came to be and share some readings that didn't make it to publication. If you’d like to attend, register here to secure your spot!
A culinary historian and the author of the bestselling books Endangered Eating: America’s Vanishing Foods and Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine, Sarah Lohman focuses on the history of food as a way to access the stories of diverse Americans. Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and NPR.

Next up for big announcements: are you ready? Because we didn't have a winter book sale last year, we're having two this spring! The second is coming up for the first weekend in May, so mark your calendars and get ready for more books, movies, games, and more! Join the Friends to get early access for the Friday preview sale, or come down for the main even Saturday and Sunday!
If you’re a member of the Friends of the Library (or want to become one), come down on Friday, May 3rd from 6-8pm. For Saturday, May 4th, the sale is open to everyone from 9am to 1pm, and then it’s everyone’s favorite $5 bag sale from 1-3 pm on Sunday the 5th! Stop by and check out the specially curated collection of books, music, movies, and games waiting for you. The Friends take cash, card, and check, so however you want to acquire your new finds, you can!
Room availability will be limited starting Monday, April 29th and through the week while they set up the sale.
The Friends will stop accepting donations between April 26th and March 11th in order to set up for and reorganize after the sale. Please hold on to anything you wish to donate until March 13th.
Following the book sale, we’ll once again be hosting the AP exams, followed by Senior Projects. Starting Monday, May 6th, AP exams begin and the Roche Bros room will be unavailable. Library programs will be limited during this time, as will room availability, as the exams often need additional space.
AP exams will go through Friday, May 17th and Senior projects will begin on Monday, May 19th. Stop by if you want to see what our seniors are doing, want to support them, and/or hear their presentations! We don’t have the schedule for those yet, but we’ll let you know when we can!

In spite of the craziness going on at the library during this, we’re still having Color an Chill! Join us on Friday, May 10th at 6pm (in the Local History room this time) for another hour of quiet relaxation before your busy weekend! Coloring has been proven to help reduce stress, so take a break from your busy life and distract yourself with a variety of intricate pages waiting for you with soothing music and snacks. As always, the room will be set up early (AP exams allowing), so if you want more time you’ll have it!
Everything you'll need will be provided— just bring yourself! No registration required.

Lastly, it’s no secret that our climate and environment are changing. Many communities now have water restrictions or outright bans on outside water use. Join us and Therapy garden workshops as they present Drought resistant gardens on Tuesday, May 14th at 6pm to see how to make the best of it! Come learn about specific drought tolerant/resistant plants for your indoor or outdoor garden. Get tips on water conservation, along with tons of varieties of vegetable and flower plants that need less water and are either native to, or do well, in New England. Great for home gardeners, people interested in the environment, and anyone else interested in gardening and customized to Millis ordinances and bylaws. No registration necessary, but if you’d like to receive reminders about this program, click here!
