Fall cheer for all
Hello again!
Spooky season is one of my personal favorites, so before I get into everything, I just want to say happy early Halloween to everyone! I hope you all stay safe and have a blast for whatever your Friday plans are. And if you have no Friday plans (I’ll be working), then I hope that you have a peaceful night. And perhaps that you can enjoy some great candy discounts later~
While we will be open normally for Halloween, I do have to let you know that we have another holiday coming. Veteran’s day will be on Tuesday, November 11th this year, and we at the Millis Public Library will be closed for it. Feel free to stop by for whatever books, games, or movies you might need before then, and if you miss us, check out our e-resources page!

It is almost time for a new month, and with it the news that we still have a ton of open spaces for out Read to a Therapy Dog program. Stop by the first two Saturdays of the month— this time Saturday, November 1st and Saturday, November 8th to practice your reading with a sweet, non-judgemental listener. We have so many slots open, so pick the time that works best for you. If you’re free on the 1st, choose between the times at 1:45pm, 2:00pm, and 2:15pm. And if you’d prefer the 8th (or want more than one slot, that’s fine too), then book your dog for 1:45pm, 2:00pm, or 2:15pm. Recommended for children ages 5-10, but all ages welcome.

We’re starting something new and want to invite anyone with very little littles to come as we welcome pediatric physical therapist, Abby Berdos for Tummy Time! Join us for a morning of fun starting Monday, November 3rd at 10:15am and learn about age-appropriate gross motor milestones, how to play with your baby, and ways to help your baby get stronger and more mobile! This tummy time program is intended for ages 0-6 months. No registration required!
Abby Berdos is a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in Massachusetts and Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS). Abby received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from UMass Lowell and continues to pursue continuing education for infant and toddler-specific physical therapy. After graduation, Abby worked for several years in early intervention with children ages 0-3 and now owns Little Miracles, PLLC, a private PT practice for infants and young toddlers, treating in the comfort of families' homes.

This is a bit surprising to say, but we have still have space in our next Make it Mondays. Join us each Monday for a weekly craft geared towards students in 3rd-6th grades. There’s always something new to make, although we do return to favorites when we can, and each week is a surprise! Starting at 4pm, we have sessions on November 3rd, November 10th, November 17th, and November 24th, so register to claim your spot and supplies!

Ready to learn how to wing it? We’re hosting Improv Games for Kids on Tuesday, November 4th at 4pm! Learn the basics of Improv through fun games as you adapt and roll with the jokes! For students in 3rd-6th grade, register here to claim your spot at the table!

We’re also pleased to announce the return of our friends at the Pop Up Art School! This time, they’ll present Snowy House Luminaria to us on Tuesday, November 4th at 6pm. Join us to create a cozy winter scene that glows with warmth and creativity! In this mixed-media art lesson you'll craft a charming snowy landscape featuring a glowing paper house nestled among woolly trees. The base is needle felted using soft wool to mimic snowdrifts, and colorful wool is used to make snow-capped trees for a pop of winter cheer. The focal point will be the small paper house, layered with torn book pages for texture. Inside, a battery-operated candle casts a soft glow, transforming the piece into a magical luminaria—perfect for display during the cold, dark months of winter.
Registration Required, for people ages 11+
All materials provided free of charge courtesy of the Friends of the Millis Library.

We could also never forget that the Clicquot Book Club is coming back around for it’s monthly meeting! Come down on Thursday, November 6th for 2pm and join us for a book club like no other— at least as far as we know! Clicquot is a unique book group where you don’t have to read anything before hand. If you do, feel free to share it with everyone and tell them what you think! Otherwise, sit back and listen to our presenter’s spoiler-free reviews of the 9-12 books she’s read this month and take home your favorite picks of them! No registration required, the only thing missing is you~

We’ve still got a few spaces open for our next teen program and we’d love to have you or your kid join us! We’re trying a new craft and are doing Mini Diamond Painting on Friday, November 7th at 6:30pm. Experience this tactile way of painting with paint "diamonds" and wax to create a beautiful re-imagining of a famous piece of art.
Recommended for grades 6th-8th, all supplies will be provided. Register here to claim your kit!
This program was generously funded by the Friends of the Millis Public Library.

Just as a reminder, the next Horror and Thriller Book Club will be taking place on Monday, November 10th at 6:30pm. We’re reading “The Haunting of Alejandra” by V. Castro— a quick little foray into the horror landscape. If you’d like to try something new, copies are at the front desk of the library. No registration required to join, just be prepared for heavy spoilers if you don’t finish!
As always, we have so much going on that simply won’t fit in the newsletter. To see everything we’ve got planned, check out our Event Calendar— it’s the first place we put things once we’ve gotten through the planning stage and we’re ready to share!
We hope something in here has struck your fancy, but if not, we look forward to seeing you when you come to visit! Until next time, take care of yourselves.
