...And Chill(s), Trills, No Ills
Hello friends and welcome back! We hope you all have had a chance to check out our survey— we want to know how we’re doing and what everyone is looking for from us! Let us know~
Now, we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves with this, but we want you to have as much of a head’s up as we can provide— no one wants to be running out of books around the holidays. We at the Millis Public Library will be closing at 1pm on Tuesday, December 24th for Christmas eve, and will be closed through Wednesday, December 25th for the holiday. We will resume normal hours on Thursday the 26th. We’ll have a reminder in our next newsletter as well, but we didn’t want to leave anyone scrambling.
We also want to let you know about Novel Occasion. If you’ve missed this announcement the last few years, a Novel Occasion is a fundraiser the Friends of the Library do to support us, and it’s massive. The event is a virtual live experience where you can meet bestselling authors from the comfort of your own home! The Friends have gathered 9 authors for this year’s lineup, and you get to pick your top two to listen to, ask questions of, and spend time with in an intimate roundtable session! Between roundtables, you’ll listen to the other authors talk about their books, a bit of their processes, and have the chance to win prizes. In addition, if you buy a ticket, you’ll get a swag box with the book of your top pick author~
This one’s a not happening until January 25th, but early bird pricing for the tickets is live now. If you love books, any of the authors (listed here), cool get-togethers to go to with your friends, or even a great holiday gift for that book lover in your life, mark your calendars. We’ll look forward to seeing you there~

Now that we have the ‘coming up’ announcements set, let’s get to what we have right around the corner. At the top of our docket is the second session of Latin Dance Night! If you missed the first, no worries. Local instructor Jamie Staraitis is here to teach you salsa! Whether you’re an old hand at the steps or want to learn something new… no matter if you have a partner or not, you’re welcome to join. The next sessions will be held on Monday, December 9th and December 23rd at 6pm— no registration required!

After that, Color and Chill will be returning to bring you another relaxing night just for you! Join us on Friday, December 13th at 6:30pm, take your pick of our new (or old, if you wanted to try a previous design) coloring sheets. We’ll supply the art supplies, the music, and light refreshments to keep you going. If you want more time with your coloring page of choice, come by earlier! The room will be set up after the movie (“Love Actually”, starting at 1pm) for you.
No registration required.

After your relaxing night coloring, we hope you’re ready for something a little chill in a different way! The Copley Cats acapella group are returning to us next week for a holiday concert! Join us for good tidings and great cheer as the award winning group returns to Millis on Saturday, December 14th at 1pm. The Copley Cats have fun making great music and love sharing it! Known for their tight harmonies and group rapport, their musical repertoire provides something for everyone.
No registration required, but come down early for a good seat!

Next up! We’re happy to put out the call to all board game enthusiasts! The next meeting of our Board Game Night is coming up on Thursday December 19th at 6pm. Get ready to play your favorite games, learn new games, and meet new board game buddies in the community.
We’ll have a different featured game each time we meet and welcome gamers of all levels. Feel free to bring in your favorite game to teach as well!

Next up, we’ve got an unlikely candidate for our teens this holiday season! Join us for another Teen Movie Night, because this time we’re showing the 90s cult classic “Edward Scissorhands”. Bring your blankets and your friends, and we'll supply the snacks for this off-beat flick on Friday, December 20th at 6pm. Recommended for grades 6th-8th, no registration required!
A family takes in a young man with scissors for hands. He is the unfinished experiment of a local eccentric who died before completing his creation. Dubbed Edward, he quickly falls in love with the family's oldest daughter, and becomes something of a sensation in the humdrum suburban neighborhood. Soon, however, his inability to fit in causes problems.
Runtime: 100 min

Last but never least for our docket, we’re here to invite you to our Taylor Swift Musical BINGO! Taking place on Monday, December 30th at 4pm, join us for Musical BINGO featuring, as you might’ve guessed, the songs of Taylor Swift! For students in 4th-8th grade, we'll have small prizes for BINGOs and will raffle off a $15 Dunkin Gift for one lucky winner. No registration is required for this event, so mark your calendars and get ready to shake out the winter blues with America’s favorite pop star!
As always, we’ve got more coming up than can fit in the newsletter, so check out our new event calendar to see what’s coming up! Until next time~
