MPL: Fall Favorites~

And so much more

Hello friends and welcome! We’re midway through September, the school year is underway, and fall is right around the corner (the first day is this Sunday, as a matter of fact!) We’ve got some amazing things coming your way, so lets get right into it!

Firstly, although we doubt you’re ever short on things to read (you’re reading our newsletter and know all about the library), we definitely know there can be something special about owning an item and being able to grab it whenever you like. We’re happy to tell you our next Friends of the Library Book Sale will be taking place starting Friday, October 18th and go through Sunday, October 20th. Mark your calendars and get ready to check out the curated selection of books, movies, games and more. And if you want that sweet early access, there’s no better time to join the Friends!

Also, as a quick head’s up, the Notary Public at the library will be unavailable between September 23rd and September 28th. To see the full hours and abilities of the Notary, check out the webpage where they’re listed and she’ll be happy to assist beforehand or after she returns!

Next up is the Community Job fair we’re hosting with our friends at MassHire! Come to the library on Thursday, September 19 between 1-3pm to connect with local employers, explore new opportunities, and take the next step in your career. Whether you're seeking a new job or looking to network, this event is the perfect opportunity to meet face-to-face with companies eager to hire.

Then, after you get the serious job quest taken care of, join usthat night—Thursday, September 19th— at 6pm for Board Game Night! Meet new friends, play your favorite games, learn new ones and relax with like minded people! We’ll provide a different featured games each month and welcome gamers of all levels. Feel free to bring in your favorite game to teach as well!

Please register so we get a sense of how many games we will need!

Then, it will be time for another Teen Anime Night, this time featuring One Punch Man: the hit shonen series about a normal man who is anything but! Join us on Friday, September 20th at 6pm for the first three episodes. Bring your friends, and we’ll provide the snacks! No registration required, this program is for kids grades 6-8.

In a world of superhuman beings, Saitama is a unique hero, he can defeat enemies with a single punch. But being just one hero in a world filled with them, his life is empty and hollow: he gets no respect from anyone, he displays a laidback attitude to everything and for the most part, he finds his overall hero life pointless... and worst of all, he lost his hair due to intense training. These are the adventures of an ordinary yet extraordinary hero.

Next up, we wanted to remind you that its almost time for the Millis Memory Cafe. Join us next Monday, September 23rd at 10:30am in the Roche Bros room of the library for our featured guest artist/performer, time for conversation, as well as coffee and refreshments. A memory café is a welcoming place for individuals and families living with memory changes and all are welcome. No registration required, but feel free to contact Kim at [email protected] or visit millislibrary.org/memorycafe for more information.

Also! Are you ready for the return of Library Legends? We’re happy to be back with the first meeting of the school year: a pizza party! Stop by after school on Tuesday, September 24th at 2:30pm for food, games, and to help us brainstorm future meetings of the club! No registration is required, Library Legends is a recently-formed after school library club that provide social and recreational activities for tweens and teens. Anyone grades 6-12 are welcome!

And to keep the good times going, after Library Legends lets out, we’ll have the return of Writer’s space! Stop by on Tuesday, September 24th at 7pm for our monthly loosely focused gathering of writers. Share ideas, frustrations, lyrics and triumphs. No matter how you like to write, we’d love to have you. Whether you want to work quietly or hash out those pesky snags in your plot, stop on by! We’ll have light refreshments set up for you, and feel free to write to this month’s prompt “My favorite…” to get your creative juices flowing! No registration required.

If you’re looking for a different kind of creativity, we’re also pleased to announce the return of the Millis Girls Who Code! In this free weekly program, girls will use coding and programming to make a positive impact! Learn new skills in a supportive environment of peers and role models.

Our Club will meet at the Millis Public Library on Wednesdays from 4:00 - 4:45 PM starting on October 2nd and follows the Millis Public Schools calendar. We won’t meet on non-school days or early release days. Girls Who Code is open to anyone in 5th through 12th grade. No prior knowledge or experience required! Lastly on our upcoming program docket, we’d like to invite your middle schoolers back for the return of Painting Pumpkins! Snag your spot and come down for Friday, October 4th at 6:30pm to create your own gourd-based masterpiece. Whether you want to make something spooky or something cute, the choice is yours. For grades 6-8, register here to claim your supplies!

And that’s the next couple weeks (with a little sneak preview of what’s to come)! As always, there’s so much happening that doesn’t make it into these newsletters. For a full list of programs and evens, check out our event calendar and we’ll see you all at the library!
