MPL: Fall into September
It's Happening
Hello friends!
It’s great to have you all here, whether you’re new to our newsletter or a long-time member of our little family seeing what we’re up to. School is back in session, and our calendar seems busier than ever— which is honestly exciting for us. It’s always good to be able to share things with all of you.
Just as a couple ‘head’s up’s before we get into the meat of the month’s offerings, the first Early dismissal of the year will be tomorrow, September 17th. Room availability will be limited, and we might not be the quietest place until probably after 4pm.
We also wanted to let everyone know that the next book for the Horror & Thriller Book Club will be “What Fire Brings” by Rachel Howzell Hall, and copies are available at the front desk of the library. If you’re looking for a new book club to join, we’d love to have you, and we’re not meeting until Monday, October 20th to talk about it~

We’re also very excited to announce that the next Book Sale is coming up! Mark your calendars for October 3rd-5th for the Friends Fall Book Sale, and check out the carefully curated selection of books they’ve been gathering for all of you!
The Friends preview sale is happening on the 3rd, so if you want first dibs at their offerings, now’s the perfect time to join the Friends of the Library. The sale officially opens to the public on Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Families, students, and seasoned collectors alike will find a wide array of books carefully sorted for easy browsing.
Beyond books, shoppers can browse a variety of audiobooks, games, CDs, and DVDs. On Sunday, October 5, from 1–3 p.m., the ever-popular $5 Bag Sale closes out the weekend. Shoppers can fill a provided bag with as many remaining treasures as they can fit. This beloved twice-yearly event is more than just a sale; it’s a fundraiser that directly benefits the Millis Public Library. The Friends of the Millis Public Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides vital support for programs and services that go beyond the library’s budget, enriching the community with educational, cultural, and literary opportunities.

As for what’s right around the corner… are you ready to rock out with your kids? It’s almost time for you to join us for a Kids Musical Scavenger Hunt featuring local children's performers Elijah T. Grasshopper and Friends! Let them search and jam out on Thursday, September 18th at 4pm. Recommended for children age 2-8, no registration required!
This program is generously sponsored by the Millis Cultural Council.

Calling all board game enthusiasts! It’s almost time for another Board Game Night! Taking place on Thursday, September 18th at 6pm, we invite you to play your favorite games, learn new games, and meet new board game buddies in the community.
No matter what level gamer you are, come hang out, make new friends, and give our featured game of the month a try. Or, if you’ve been dying to try that new game you picked up, feel free to bring it in to teach us!
Please register so we get a sense of how many/what kind of games we will need, and contact Kim at [email protected] or 508-376-8282 with questions.

It’s also almost time for the return of our Friday Features! Join us this Friday, September 15th at 1pm in the Roche Bros Community room for a blast from the past with “Jurassic Park”. Each month we show a pick of new movies and old classics, with light refreshments, all sponsored by the Friends of the Millis Public Library.
Genetically engineered dinosaurs run amok on a remote island. It's up to a paleontologist, a paleobotanist and a mathematician to outmaneuver the deadly beasts and find their way back to civilization. Based on Michael Crichton's best seller. The film won three Oscars, including Best Visual Effects.

Ready to chill and jump back after a long week of school? Waaay back? Come back into the 90s with us for Teen TV! Join us on Friday, September 19th at 6pm as we show you three of the most popular shows of the era and see what was what!

Full House
Family Matters
For grades 6th-8th, bring your friends and we'll get the snacks - no registration required!

Also, we’re surprised to see there are still spaces for this month’s Make-it Mondays. We’d like to welcome both new and returning students to join us after school for a craft! For students in 3rd-6th grade, Make it Monday takes place at 4pm each week. Click the links to register for the days you’d like to attend— September 22nd, September 29th, October 6th, and October 20th. To see any additional dates, check our event calendar!

We also can’t forget this month’s Memory cafe. Join us Monday, September 22nd from 10:30am to 12pm for a featured activity or performer, time for conversation, as well as coffee and refreshments. A memory café is a welcoming place for individuals and families living with memory changes, and there is no cost or registration necessary to attend. This month we’re pleased to welcome harpist Shelly Otis as our guest performer.

It will also soon be time for Writer’s space! Join us on Tuesday, September 23rd at 7pm to join a like-minded group of writers as we work on our stories, poems, and brainstorm our next best ideas. Whether you want to free write, slam out your word goal, or doodle nonsense, we’re the space for you. Hang out, let someone help you with that word you’re looking for, and have a couple snacks with us— no registration required.
As always, there’s so much going on that won’t fit in this newsletter. To see everything we’ve got planned, check out our event calendar!
Until next time, we hope something has struck your fancy, but even if it hasn’t, take care of yourselves.
