S'more happenings

Hello friends and welcome back! Somehow, we’re half-way through the summer and August is coming up fast. While there aren’t any big holidays coming up, that doesn’t mean we’re not still bustling.

First thing’s first: we wanted to remind everyone that the next Millis Memory Cafe is coming on Monday, July 28th at 10:30am. As always, a memory café is a welcoming place for individuals and families living with memory changes. Each café event will include a featured activity or performer, time for conversation, as well as coffee and refreshments. This month we’ll be doing mindful coloring, but there’s no registration required and everyone is welcome!

We’d also love to invite every kid who’s been self-conscious about their reading to join us. If you’ve been looking at our calendar, you may have noticed that we have sessions open for our Read to a Therapy Dog program! If your kid wants to practice reading, these pups are the perfect non-judgmental listeners! We have a lot of slots open, starting on Saturday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 9th, so check out our event calendar to see the available time slots and register for the one that works for you!

We're also happy to announce the return of the Clicquot book club! If you love books and love talking books, but don’t want the rigidity of a traditional book club, this is the one for you. Each month, our presenter will go through 12-18 books, offering spoiler-free summaries, and give you a chance to grab the ones you find most interesting! The next meeting will be on Thursday, August 7th at 2pm, and there’s no registration required! The only thing missing is you~

After Clicquot, we have another fun favorite coming up: Color and Chill! Join us on Friday, August 8th for another night of ‘you’ time with fresh coloring sheets, relaxing music, snacks, and all the art supplies you may need. If you’re particular, feel free to bring your own materials! We just want you to be able to relax and have fun. The room will be set up at 4:30pm if you want a head start on your sheets or just more time for yourself, but snacks and music start at 6:30pm! No registration required.

Then, we’ve got a more traditional book club happening on Monday, August 11th— the Horror and Thriller book club! Join us at 6:30pm in the Roche Bros room to discuss John Marrs’ book “The Passengers” with like-minded enthusiasts. If you’d like to join, copies of the book are available behind the main desk at the library. No registration required.

Last but hardly least on our lineup is something that’s a little farther away in August: Rebecca’s Calligraphy workshop. We still have a couple spaces open in this teen program, so sign up to join us on Friday, August 15th at 4pm and learn one of the oldest art forms involving the written word. Learn the difference parts of a quill and go super old school as we learn and explore the Blackletter script.

All supplies will be provided. For grades 6th-8th, register here to attend.

As always, there’s always so much that’s going on that won’t fit in the newsletter. To see our full lineup, check out our event calendar, the central place to see all the programs we’ve got going!

We hope something in here’s struck your fancy, and look forward to seeing you soon! Until then, take care of yourselves,
