Fun for all ages~
Good evening!
It’s been a bit of a wild month thus far, and we hope everyone is keeping up with their layers during these out-of-character days. Even though it doesn’t feel like summer tonight, it won’t stop us! Our programming is ramping up and we’re happy to tell you that…

…Adult Summer Reading is officially live! Were you looking for some extra motivation to read something this summer? Our second annual Adult Summer Reading BINGO contest is here to help! Complete 5 challenges and win a BINGO prize. Complete all 24 to enter for a chance to win some great prizes from local sponsors. Share and compete with friends or just pick some squares to get you going! It’s all up to you~
Check out the rules and get your BINGO sheet either the next time you visit the library, or by printing it out here!
We’d like to let you know that Juneteenth is coming up and we at the Millis Public Library will be closed in honor of it. This year, the holiday will be on Thursday, June 19th, so stop in before or after to pick up any books, movies, or media you might be interested in for the day off. If you miss us, please check out our e-resources page and see what we have available where ever you and the internet are!

And if you’re looking for something to read, and a group to discuss your book with, consider joining the Horror and Thriller Book Club! We’ve got a lively bunch, and discussions are open and friendly. Our next book will be “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides, which we’ll be talking about on Monday, July 14th at 6:30pm.
No registration required; there are copies of the book available at the library’s front desk. Face your fears, try something new, and we’ll look forward to seeing you then!

We also hope you’re ready for the return of Board Game Night! If you enjoyed the last get-together, or you just wanted to go out and try something new, we’ve got a spot for you. No matter your experience, join us on Thursday, June 12th at 6pm to play your favorite games, learn new games, and meet new board game buddies in the community. Or bring one of your favorite games and teach us— we’d love to learn it!
Register here to let us know what kinds of games we should be bringing out— a game for 4 is much different than a game for 10, after all!

After all the excitement of the BGN, it’ll be time for another adult coloring night at the library. Join us for Color and Chill on Friday, June 13th, and let your worries float away during the creative process. Coloring has been proven to help reduce stress, so come, select your medium (we’ve got colored pencils and markers, but if you have something you’d rather use, feel free to bring it), your sheet of choice, and take some ‘you’ time before your weekend. The room will be open at 4:30pm if you want a head start, but the snacks and music start at 6:30pm. No registration required.

We’re also hoping you’ve got a sweet tooth, because the experts at Cocoa Beantown are coming to present: The Science of Chocolate on Tuesday, June 17th at 7pm! They’ll be here to answer questions like what chemicals in the brain are released when we eat chocolate that makes us feel so good? Does chocolate really have caffeine in it? What is cocoa butter, and why is it so important to chocolate, as well as other products that we don’t even eat? Why do I have trouble melting chocolate chips in the microwave? Why didn’t I like dark chocolate when I was a kid? The commonality between all of these, besides the chocolate, is all of these questions can be answered by SCIENCE! Let’s learn about all of the magical properties of cocoa, including why it can help improve your memory and cardiac function.
This program comes with samples, so join us to snack and learn with this delectable mental treat. No registration required, but if you’d like an email reminder, you can sign up here!

Ready to add a little magic to your kid’s lives? Come laugh along with comic magician Mike Bent as he returns to the Millis Public Library on Friday, June 20th for AbraKIDabra! Combining amazing magic, big laughs, audience participation and hilarious surprises for a one-of-a-kind, interactive experience, this is one of our favorite shows, and we know you'll love it too! Recommended for children ages 4-10, the magic begins at 10:30am! Register here to attend!

And then, on Monday, June 23rd, we’ll be having our next Memory Cafe. Starting at 10:30 am, we welcome you to join a welcoming place for individuals and families living with memory changes. Each café event will include a featured activity or performer, time for conversation, as well as coffee and refreshments. This month, we will be joined by musician Susan Koh.
Sue is a singer and songwriter who lives right here in Millis! She’s been singing and playing the guitar since she was a young girl. Sue teaches music in a local public school and she also performs for seniors and people of all ages. Get ready for a wonderful program including songs from the past decades— you will recognize your old favorites!
No registration required. If you have any questions, check out our FAQ page, or email Kim.

Have you ever wondered how to make a good, spontaneous joke? Join us for Improv Games starting on Tuesday, June 24th at 4pm to learn improv comedy through… you guessed it: fun games! For kids entering 4th through 6th grade, this will be a program with multiple instances. To attend on the 24th, register here, but we also have the Games on July 1st, July 8th, and July 22nd. Each will be a unique, fresh start, so make sure to snag your spot!

Last, but certainly not least on our docket of upcomings, is Writer’s Space! Join us at 7pm on Tuesday, June 24th to maybe put pen to paper and hang out with some other writers who get it. Share ideas, frustrations, lyrics and triumphs. Free write or finish your masterpiece. We don't even care if you doodle nonsense.
No registration required. This month’s prompt for you to play with (if you want) is “The Glory of a Weed…”
As always, there’s so much that goes on at the library that we can’t fit in our newsletter. For the full list of programs and events happening, check out our event calendar!
We hope something in here’s struck your fancy, and that we’ll see you soon!
Until then, take care of yourselves,
Your Friendly Neighborhood Librarians
